With heavy hearts we lost a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great grandmother, and friend. Leonor “Nora” Fabiola Bernal Trujillo lost her battle with cancer February 29, 2024, at the age of 82. She was born December 17, 1941, in Cleveland, New Mexico, to Manuel G. Bernal and Mary Sanchez Bernal. Then moved to Green River, Wyoming, where they stayed till the age of 19.
Nora met and married the love of her life, Leo Donald Trujillo, on December 8, 1961, in Green River, Wyoming. Then moved to Lark, Utah for the next four months before moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they proceeded to establish a life and family of their own.
Nora worked for the Salt Lake City school district for 10 years as a teacher’s aide at Glendale Elementary and Whittier Elementary for 2 years. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish. Nora and her husband Leo, amongst other Parishioners started the Saint Patrick’s Spanish Choir, that stayed in effect for over twenty years.
Nora had tremendous love for her family and worked hard to make sure everyone came together often and shared many traditions. She definitely loved to throw great parties and invited everyone, even the new neighbors.
She kept track of literally everyone’s birthdays and made the best birthday cards. Nora was very crafty and quite artistic. She always added her own little flare to any card. Sometimes a little drawing and always a handwritten loving note which we have all cherished and saved over the years.
Some of Nora’s hobbies were taking pictures and developing them into scrapbooks, doing crossword puzzles, baking her famous cookies, which were passed down from her mother. Decorating her house and making food for every holiday, Valentines, St. Patricks, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas Eve and Day. Nora was an early bird that enjoyed getting up very early and having her coffee with whomever of her kids stopped by to visit or just to watch the news together.
She loves to watch her Price is Right, her soap opera, Days of Our Lives and sometimes a great horror movie where her eyes would grow very big. She and Leo would call family and friends for their birthdays and sing to them the Happy Birthday song and Las Mananitas.
Nora always greeted you at the door with a smile. She loved shopping and going out to lunch afterwards.
Nora spent many summers planning camping trips that provided the comforts of home. She always loved cooking, always had marshmallows, hotdogs and of course the specialty drinks ready. Loved singing/dancing around the fire and reminiscing about old times. Nora was the Matriarch of the family. She left an incredible mark on all who loved her. She will definitely be missed.
