Leonard Willis Severson
1932 – 2014
Leonard W. Severson passed away on September 1, 2014 in Ogden, Utah of natural causes. He was born on June 4, 1932, in Lewisville, Idaho. His parents were Glen and Helen Severson. He was raised in Tremonton, Utah where he graduated from Bear River High School.
After High School graduation, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Millington, Tennessee where he met Narah Anna Jackson. They were married on September 11, 1954 with the marriage later solemnized in the Logan Temple.
While serving in the Navy Leonard and his family lived in a variety of locations: Utah, Florida, Hawaii, California, Texas, and Tennessee. Leonard served in the Navy as a CPO for over 26 years and retired from the Navy in 1978. As a civilian he worked in the Telecommunications Industry until his retirement in 2000.
Some of Leonard’s hobbies and interests were crocheting, counted-cross stitch, and needlepoint. He always worked on the most complicated counted-cross stitch and had amazing results with the work. He enjoyed making fudge, rolls, jams and jellies, as well as, homemade bread which he eagerly shared with others. He also loved to play chess and for two years of playing games of chess with his son, he always came out the winner.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 59 years, Narah Anna, and two children, Lynn and Linda. He is survived by his children, Lex (Alex) Severson of Tennessee, Lila (Cliff) Jasinsky of Utah, and Lyle (Jan) Severson also of Utah. Grandchildren, Jessica (Brad) Clawson, Justin (Stephanie) Severson, Michael Jasinsky, Andrew Severson, Britney (Blake) Stringham, Steven Jasinsky, Elder Bronson Severson (serving in the Texas Lubbock Mission), Kenny Jasinsky, and Samantha Severson. Great-Granddaughters, Jacie and Lydia. Also survived by two sisters, Joyce (Verl) Walker of California, Mae Haligan of Utah and a brother-in-law, William P. Jackson, Jr. of Louisiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Leonard will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Lake View Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah. 1640 E. Lakeview Dr. There will be a viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a graveside service following the viewing. Interment at Lakeview Memorial Park.
