Leonard Randall Wood, 75, of Taylorsville, Utah, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Oscar Neldon Wood and Verle Whatcott. Dad was a talented artist who enjoyed pin striping, leather work, drawing, metal work, wood carving, and all things creative. He was the most hard-working man we have known, providing for his family of 12 children and his beloved wife. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served the Lord diligently his entire life.
Dad was devoted to his wife, Maureen, often asking us, “kids, isn’t your mother pretty?” His devotion to her taught us what an eternal marriage means. He was always proud of having 12 children and would tell everyone about us all. This tale only increased as his grandchildren were born. He loved his grandchildren and was never happier than when the noisy crew invaded his home.
Dad had a terrific sense of humor and we all (kids and grandkids alike) know the songs about Bonnie and her tuberculosis and that chicken that wouldn’t lay an egg. He often asked the grandkids if “they were eating worms.” He also loved telling corny jokes and many of his kids and grandkids have inherited this trait.
Dad is survived by his wife, Maureen, his children – Lisa (Mark) Jensen, Samantha (Brian) Bennett, Matthew (Cyndie) Wood, Nancy (Vince) Rose, Becky (Warren) Hutchison, David (Paula) Wood, Tyler (Jedydyah Allred) Wood, Tiffany Wood, Todd (Hilary) Wood, SaraLyn (Kevin) Greenwood, Timothy (MyLyn) Wood, Ellen (Tyler) Pitts – 27 grandchildren and one on the way. We are sure he is holding her right now and singing that stupid song. He is also survived by his sisters – Marilyn (Vern) Halversen, Zelda (Ronald) Black, and Verna (Johnny) Angel. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lavell (Faye) Wood.
We are forever grateful for the care he received from the staff at Sunridge Assisted Living and Envision Home Healthcare. Their names are too numerous to mention individually but our dad loved them and they loved him.
