Lenard Gale Wright

August 29, 1946 — February 6, 2022

Lenard was born in Rock Springs, Wyo. on August 29, 1946, the son of Ray Wright and Nellie May Wint Wright. He grew up in Lyman Wyo. After high school, he attended the University of Wyoming for a year before serving 2 years in the British South Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While he was in England, his father died and his mother moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Shortly after his mission, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany for 2 ½ years. When he returned home, he attended Weber State College where he majored in Accounting. He also met and married his wife, Kathy Rowe Wright while at Weber.
They moved to North Salt Lake after graduating from Weber. They raised their family there, and were very active in the Church; Lenard served in many positions and callings in the Church during his life. Lenard worked for Mountain Fuel Company, Northwest Pipeline, and Questar Gas, during which time he obtained an Executive MBA from the University of Utah.
After he retired, he and Kathy served various Church missions, including the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, the Nevada Las Vegas West Mission, and the New York Rochester Mission. He was currently serving a Service Mission at the Global Service Center for the Church.
Lenard was very active all throughout his life in various outdoor activities, including running 31 marathons, participating in mountain bike races, and many trips with family and friends to Moab and Zion for jeeping, rock climbing, canyoneering, and rappelling. The family also took many trips outside of Utah. He was always serving others, and enjoyed spending time with the people he loved. He loved children, and they loved him.
In his later years, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease which only slightly limited his superhuman abilities. He died unexpectedly of a heart attack on February 6, 2022. Lenard was loved by all who knew him; and to say that he will be deeply missed is an immense understatement.
Lenard was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Merl, and sisters Marie Hansen and Lydia Fackrell, and granddaughter Faith Ann Wright.
Lenard is survived by his wife Kathy Rowe Wright, and sons Eric Lenard Wright (Deseret), Michael Ray Wright (Trisha), Matthew Spencer Wright (Jenny), Ryan Rowe Wright (Sarah), and daughter Tammy Katherine Brown (Vincent), 26 grandchildren, and his sister Thana Wright Harding (Phill).
