Leila LaRue (Peggy) Ecton died on January 3, 2018 at age 85, in Layton, Utah. She was born on March 17, 1932 in Murray, Utah to Leroy and Leila Soelberg. She married her high school sweetheart, Jesse David Ecton, on June 2, 1952.
Peggy grew up in Grantsville, Utah where she participated in singing, dancing, cheerleading, school plays, writing for the school paper, VP of the yearbook committee, played softball and basketball. She also attended BYU Academy where she continued playing sports and was a cougarette. She lived in Utah, Green River Wyoming, and Arizona. She was an advocate for battered women, worked with special needs children and served in several church callings throughout her life. She felt proud and fortunate to be a member of the LDS church. She considered her most important accomplishment the opportunity to raise her five beautiful children. She would cheer her children and grandchildren through their greatest accomplishments, and would hold their hands in their troubled or weak moments. She was a friend to everyone, wanting to love and serve and sacrifice for the comfort of others. Mom said “life is full of ups and downs. You enjoy the ups and try to get past the downs.” She suffered dementia in her later years and appreciated many wonderful caregivers at Apple Village who loved and helped her and her family through this difficult time.
She is survived by her brother Bruce Soelberg (Marie); her children David Ecton (Ann), Karen Shimizu (Danny), Craig Ecton (Becky) and Gary Ecton (Lisa); 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Leila Soelberg, her husband Jesse David Ecton, her son Bret Ecton, her son-in-law Danny Shimizu and her brother Leroy Soelberg Jr.
