Lawrence D. Lambert

November 14, 1933 — November 7, 2021

Lawrence D. Lambert, aka Canyon Rim Cowboy Poet, depicted above, circa June 1952, with his lifelong sweetheart and companion, Cowgirl, Jeanine M. Lambert, in the company of his family, died Nov. 7, 2021 due to complications from a long, well-lived life spent pursuing all things bright and beautiful.
He pursued his education at Sherman Elementary, Olympus Junior High, Granite High School, and the University of Utah. In his lifelong career, he advanced from an entry level position into an engineering supervisor position at Mt. Fuel (Questar), allowing him to retire at an early age.
He loved books, music, art, tennis, fishing, a good joke, the outdoors, traveling, a hearty conversation, his family and his wife of 69 years. He was a skilled writer, vocalist, athlete, mathematician, investor, storyteller and do-it-your-selfer. He was incredibly disciplined, meticulous and consistent. With his wife’s assistance, he built his first home in Salt Lake in the Canyon Rim area, and later helped design, craft and artistically furnish his second home in Ivins, Utah to create an esthetically beautiful and elegant refuge from Salt Lake’s cold winters, and from the worries of the world.
He is predeceased by all of his siblings, except the youngest, Linda Melville (husband Lynn), L.
Drew Lambert (son, who is survived by his wife Lonie), Collin N. Hanson (grandson), and Stacie R. Howard (granddaughter). Those of his immediate family, yet to follow him into the eternities are: wife Jeanine, daughters Rochelle (spouse Nile Larsen), Teresa, Melissa (husband Mathew Bradford); sons Loren Mitchell (wife Denae), Wade, Adam Trenton (wife Janet); and his 83.5 grand-and-great grand-kids.
Lawrence’s self-poetic portrait of his later years:
THE RUNES OF UNKNOWN STRANGER (POET SELF-PORTRAITURE)
THERE IS A STRANGER
WHO LIVES IN MY STEAD, HE EATS AT MY TABLE AND SLEEPS IN MY BED.
I’VE HEARD HE TALKS OF HIS ACHES
AND MENTIONS HIS PAIN
AND RELATES SILLY OLD STORIES OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
AND THAT HE TRIES TO REMEMBER
WHAT HE JUST BARELY THOUGHT AND THEN RECOLLECTS
WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE FORGOT.
THEY SAY HE’S A STUBBORN OLD COOT,
THINKS HE’S RIGHT WHEN HE’S WRONG.
AND HE GOES AROUND HUMMING AN OLD 50’S SONG.
I SELDOM SEE THIS STRANGER;
IT’S GOOD HE DOESN’T KEEP APPEARING,
BUT I KNOW HE’S STILL AROUND
‘CAUSE MY UNDERWEAR KEEPS DISAPPEARING.
AND WHEN I TAKE THE TIME
TO CHECK OUT MY REFLECTION, HE’S ALWAYS THERE—AN OLD, OLD MAN GLARING IN MY DIRECTION.
