Lavon Norma Prahl

August 14, 1923 — February 23, 2017

Our sweet mom, LaVon Norma Kroescher Prahl, passed away peacefully on Februrary 23, 2017, at the age of 93 at the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. She lived a life full of love, service, compassion and generosity. LaVon was born August 14, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Emil August and Ruth Lundstrom Kroescher. She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School in 1940. She married Gottfried Prahl on January 25, 1948, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and willingly served in many capacities, including Primary and Relief Society Presidencies, Young Women and Primary. LaVon loved music, performing, clogging, sewing, travelling and writing poetry. LaVon loved to tell jokes and had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She broke both arms at age 75 while roller skating with 2 of her grandchildren, yet that never stopped her from riding her bike or any other adventure she pursued. She taught clogging to various neighbor kids into her 80’s. She performed with the Golden Oldies, High Five, Murray Senior Band and the Clogging Grandma’s. She won several awards for her poetry. She was very giving of her time and wrote many poems and letters to her friends and loved ones. LaVon worked as an elevator operator at the Hotel Utah, Cottonwood Hospital in medical records, Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and retired with the State of Utah Criminal Investigations.
LaVon is survived by her four children, Gary (Peggy) Prahl, Mesa; AZ; Doug (Kathy) Prahl, Littlefield, AZ; Janet (Mike) Fraser, Taylorsville, UT; and Julie (Keith) Stratton, North Salt Lake, Utah; grandchildren: Jeremy (Jaime) Prahl, AZ; Chad Prahl, AZ; Shelly (Shane) Davis, AZ; Sadie (Buck) Taylor, AZ; Garrett (Lyndsay) Fraser, UT; Mitch (Sharon) Fraser, UT; Chris (Sarah) Stratton, UT; Kaitlyn Stratton, UT; Conrad Dobitz, UT; and Carly Dobitz, UT; and 17 great-grandchildren: Kohl, Luke, Tate, Cade and Cash Prahl; Rio Lexie and Logan Davis; Holly, Tripp, Tagg and Tyde Taylor; Lincoln and Capri Fraser; Millie and Frankie Fraser; and Aubrie and Greyson Stratton.
LaVon was preceded in death by her husband, Gottfried, her loving parents Emil and Ruth Kroescher, sister Marjorie Holbrook and her husband Bob, brother Ralph Kroescher and his wife Maxine, and cherished grandson Cody Prahl. LaVon loved her family and sacrificed greatly to provide for them.
