Laurel D. Hayward

July 13, 1938 — December 17, 2020

Laurel D. Hayward was born in Duchesne, UT, July 13,1938 to Venoy Hugh Hayward and Dorothy Oertel Fuhriman Hayward. He passed away peacefully to return to the presence of our Heavenly Father at the age of 82, on December 17, 2020, having lived a long, blessed life. He is the oldest of 5 children, his life long friends and siblings- Nolan, Doyle, Karen, Kathleen. While growing up the family raised mink and he also worked at and helped operate The Hayward Market, which was started by his grandfather. He attended the first graduating Class of Bountiful High School, in 1957. While in high school he was a member of the wrestling, football and track teams.
Laurel had beautiful penmanship. He frequently told us that he would be asked by others if his mother had done his writing for him. He was always proud to say he had practiced and it was his own.

He joined the Army Reserves upon graduation, at the young age of 19, in 1957. He trained and served full time for six months. Thereafter, he and his two brothers served for eight years together, every summer in the reserves. They served in the mess hall. These have been among the many fond memories he used to share, over the years.
After High School he worked at Hill Air Force Base in the Electronic Department. He married Carol Smith Sept 5, 1968, and in 1969 they were sealed and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They later divorced. Laurie married Margaret Jones July 27, 2007 and later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple, and divorced shortly after.  He retired after 30 years of employment as a meter calibration foreman from Utah Power And Light Co. He started the first neighborhood watch in the Sandy 13th Ward Neighborhood. He was always willing and generous to assist and help others. He had a love and talent to refurbish cars and engines.
Laurie was preceded in death by his parents Venoy Hugh Hayward & Dorthy Oertel Hayward, brother, Doyle Hayward, & Great Granddaughter Ariana Dinielli. Laurie is survived by his children Marlin, Dana, Cooper, Julie, Holly (Dean)Offret, 10 Grandchildren, & 6 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a plethora of beloved cousins.  He lived a long, full, blessed life. We’re grateful to have the knowledge of the restored gospel of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and to know he was met with a joyous reunion to be among his loved ones who have already passed. Many thanks to the staff at CNS and for his wonderful hospice nurse, Craig,  for his dutiful and loving care of our Dad. Especially during COVID, Craig was very attentive and a friend to Laurie. We also thank the staff at Wentworth in Draper. While residing there, he moved from the assisted living side to the memory care side during the COVID pandemic and we were not able to visit often or be there during this adjustment. We appreciate all the workers who kept him in their care. There wasn’t anyone that met him there that didn’t tell us he was friendly and pleasant!
Services will be on December 28, 2020 from 11am-12pm at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah, with a viewing one hour prior. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
