Laura Edith Irwin
September 19, 1963 ~ April 1, 2015
A true Steel Magnolia & Beautiful Rose
Daughter, Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Friend
On April 1, 2015, we here on earth lost a beautiful soul. Laura Edith Irwin left us to continue her eternal journey after a long and painful, debilitating illness. In trying to improve her health she underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2004. She had numerous complications, developed Crohn’s Disease, and had 29 surgeries trying to correct the various problems. During these years of extreme ill health and hospitalizations, she never complained and kept her sweet spirit. In the end, her fragile body could not take any more. She had a contagious smile, a fierce love of her children and family, and a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. She was taken from us too soon, but she is no longer in constant pain.
Laura was born on September 19, 1963 in Benton, AR. She is survived by her parents Jim and Patricia Irwin of Nampa, ID; her children Katie Leigh Rose (John Eric) Hawkins of Monette, AR, Jacob Lu Meyers (Sherina Bahk) of Canberra, Australia, Nathan Meyers of West Jordan, UT, and Amanda (Dustin) Leonard of St. George, UT; her sister Connie Irwin of West Jordan, UT, brother Brett (Keri) Irwin of Rhododendron, OR, and brother Clayton (Dena) Irwin of Pullman, WA; her grandchildren Kiori, Ashtyn, Ethan, Hannah, Cymbre, Aubri, Jayden, Dylon and Jennica; her nephews Enrique Connor O’Neill and Joseph Elliott of West Jordan, UT; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends as she never met a stranger.
Laura was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) and had an unwavering testimony of the Gospel. She was very talented musically, in both singing and playing the piano and clarinet. She served in many musical positions until her health would not allow her to sit for long periods. Although she lived in Utah for the past 20+ years, she was born in Arkansas and lived in Alabama for a few years and was a true Southern Belle. She still spoke with that sweet southern drawl until the end of her earthly life.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13, 2015 at 11:00 am, with a visitation at 10:00 am, at Redwood Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT. She will be cremated and inurned at a later date in the Mausoleum Garden at Redwood Memorial.
The family is deeply touched and appreciative of the numerous donations, prayers, thoughts, messages and gifts given by so many. Additional gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and staff at Landmark Hospital, Jordan Valley Hospital, St. Mark’s Hospital, Avalon Care Center and the staff at Coram Medical. To Doctor Sonny Hollingsworth and staff, your tender care of her all of these years meant so much to her and to our family.
Laura loved to garden and could grow anything. But God knew she was suffering and chose her for a place in His beautiful garden. Until we meet again sweet spirit angel, my beautiful sister Laura!
God looked upon his garden
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered “Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again.
