Launa Stolworthy Christensen passed away on September 22, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Launa came into the world on May 6, 1944, in Shelley Idaho. Born to Mallene Weaver and Gordon Stolworthy, being the first of eight children Launa had many responsibilities at a young age caring for her siblings. She was also taught by her parents the value of work and sacrifice. The family moved to Murray, Utah her senior year of high school where she met her sweetheart, Carl L. Christensen to whom she was fiercely loyal. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1965. Together, Launa and Carl raised eight children of their own; LeAn (Jeff Bone), John (Lisa), Craig (Heidi), Shauna (Daniel Saxton), Quinton (Wendy), Joseph (Jessica), Lars (Kate), and Tony (Tiffany.)
Launa spent 38 years working as a nurse. She enjoyed gardening, music, and flowers. She loved attending plays and performances of her grandchildren. She made the best homemade noodles in the world. Her grandchildren have many fond memories of baking cookies with Grandma C.
Anyone who knew Launa felt her unconditional love for them. She had a special gift of making her home a refuge. Jesus Christ said, “If ye have done it unto the least of these…”. Her home was open to anyone who needed a hand up. Many people benefited from her pure Christlike love. She never spoke ill of anyone and was a woman without guile.
With Carl at her side, Launa served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Relief Society President, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Primary President and Teacher, and Ward Missionary. During her service as a ward missionary, she met Cydni and Ciera who were baptized and became a very important part of her life. She is so proud of these two young ladies. Launa and Carl served together as missionaries for the LDS Church at the Jordan River Temple, Salt Lake Inner City Mission, and as Photo Missionaries.
Most of all, Launa loved her family. Her dedication to her family was evident through her genealogy work and participation in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Launa was a second mother to many, including her younger sisters and her nephew, Scotty Stolworthy. She is adored by her children, 36 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Launa was a true example of faith, service, love, and charity. She built her life on the foundation of the Gospel, with Jesus Christ as her true cornerstone. She was truly a Christ-like person.
Though Launa will be dearly missed, she has been reunited with her mother, father, and her infant daughter, Lilyan (July 3-7, 1977.)
