Larue Richmond

May 13, 1930 — January 14, 2022

Faye LaRue Christiansen Richmond was born May 13, 1930 in the LDS Hospital of goodly parents, Rudolph Ingwald Christiansen and Louise Julia Jones Christiansen. She was raised on 9th Avenue between A and B Streets, in the Ensign Ward with wonderful friends and neighbors. She graduated from East High School and received a bachelor’s degree at the University of Utah and a master’s degree at Westminster College.
LaRue married Raymond Earl Richmond, May 10, 1950 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1952. They had eight children. Ray and LaRue lived in Iowa and Missouri where Ray finished chiropractic school then returned to Salt Lake.
LaRue’s life was centered on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, her family, her friends, being of service, and being an educator (1st and 2nd grades). She served in primary, Sunday school, ward and stake music, the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker, and as a Salt Lake missionary.
During her life she worked several full-time jobs, her favorite being an elementary school teacher for 20 years. She was awarded Utah Teacher of the Year. She was also honored by the Kiwanis Club.
LaRue loved music. She sang with a trio beginning at age 12 with two of her dear friends, Carolyn and Ann. Then her love of barbershop began, singing with The Wasatch Suburbanettes, under the direction of her precious friend Jan Hunter, for 20 years, and her barbershop quartet, The Mama Dolls. She then sang with the Allegro Chorus throughout The Salt Lake Valley under the direction of Bev Skordas. While teaching at Whittier Elementary, LaRue directed the school choruses and musicals, which she loved with all her heart. She sang in and directed her ward and stake choirs. She was in road shows and stake musicals for 30 years under the direction of her best buddy, Joyce Smith.
LaRue loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so grateful for each one of them.
Youth were drawn to LaRue and she loved them all! LaRue enjoyed doing genealogy and doing proxy temple work for her beloved ancestors. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneer (D.U.P). She served at the D.U. P., in her D.U.P. Company, and in her Holladay Camp. She was very proud of her heritage. LaRue was a patriot – she loved this country!
LaRue and Ray took their family camping every year until their deaths. They loved the Utah mountains and taught their family to love nature also. She enjoyed watching and reading Jane Austen, Perry Mason, James Bond, The Tabernacle Choir, Disney, Clint Eastwood, and most of all chocolate! She was an avid reader and exercised daily.
LaRue had sunshine in her heart and tried to spread that to others. Her positive outlook on life, faith in Heavenly Father and our Savior governed her life. She tried to give 100% in everything she did. She went the extra mile and was a responsible, compassionate, thoughtful, and unselfish example to all she came in contact with.
LaRue is preceded in death by her father Rudolph Ingwald Christiansen, mother Louise Julia Jones, step-mother Edna Mildred Murphy, husband Raymond Earl Richmond, sister Jean Louise Biesinger, brother Paul Rudolph Christiansen, daughter Jacqueline Wesche, sons David Michael and Daniel Raymond Richmond, and grandson William Matthew Richmond.
LaRue is survived by her sister Karen Gray, children Linda LaRae (Gene) Alles, Laurie Jean (Bill) Fowler, William Ernest II (Conce) Richmond, Rebecca Sue Richmond, daughter-in-law Laura Richmond, Joseph Walter (Lory) Richmond, son-in-law Todd Wesche, 38 grandchildren, and 57 great-grandchildren.
