Our wonderful & sweet husband, father, brother, grandfather & great grandfather passed away December 20, 2018 with his loving wife & daughter at his side. Born October 5, 1939 in Richmond, Indiana to Layton F & Thelma F. (Dunaway) Bales. He grew up on the beaches of Southern California and later moved to Fortuna, California where he had a close relationship with his maternal grandparents. He graduated from Fortuna High School where he met a feisty young woman named Karen. They were married the day after she turned 18 & just celebrated their 59th anniversary. Larry joined the Navy and became a Medical Corpsman. He loved his family & the outdoors, fishing, hunting camping, golf & 4-wheeling in his “Cruiser” He retired from (St. Regis) Paper Company and was a lifelong Oakland Raider fan. He was a hardworking, quiet and gentle man who loved reading history & watching the history & animal channels. He is survived by his wife Karen Cussins Bales; daughter Demora Bales (Kelly); sister, Shawnee Lynch (Larry); grandchildren Amanda Bales Ealey (Todd), Bradlee, Skyler, Sammy; great grandchildren, Bryden & Octavia. He was preceded in death by his son Matthew. Thank you to Intermountain Hospice for all their help & loving care. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice or spend some special time with someone you love.
