Larry Hartlerode

February 3, 1953 — February 18, 2021

Larry Edmond Hartlerode, 68, of Sandy, Utah, was called Home on February 18th, 2021. He was born on February 3, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Harry and Barbara Hartlerode. He graduated from Tabiona High in 1971. In 1972, he entered the US Naval Seabees and honorably served his country during wartime for six years. He described himself as a Bible believing Christian that loves his God, his country, and his God-given rights.
He married his fiery sweetheart, Carol Battie, on July 29, 1978. They were blessed with three children. His family was his world. He had many hobbies, but he never pursued them alone. He always brought his family along for the adventures.
He was privileged to be accompanied in this life with eight amazing siblings that he loved dearly. He loved to tease them, laugh with them, cry with them, and support them and their children in any way he could.
He was a heavy equipment operator, specializing in friction and tower cranes, for Operating Engineers Local Union #3. The results of his craft can be seen in buildings such as the Energy Solutions Arena, LDS Church Conference Center, 222 Main, and many other high-rise buildings throughout the valley.
He was an avid outdoorsman and found a way to blend his passions with teaching others the beauty of God’s world. The miles traveled on mountain roads (many of which would frighten the average person), the trails blazed while hiking, the fish caught while laughing and “skunking” those with him, and the love shared around thousands of campfires will never be forgotten by those who were fortunate enough to share it with him.
He was a gifted musician and shared his talent freely to entertain, comfort, and strengthen others. Whether he had an instrument in his hand or not, it didn’t matter, music came from his soul in the form of witty songs, somber songs, uplifting songs, or the constant hum that could always be heard.
He is survived by his forever-partner, Carol Hartlerode; his children, Carrie (Jason) McLachlan, Cherish (Tyler) Wabel, Luke (Angela) Hartlerode; his grandchildren, Kaylum, Hunter, Peytyn, Madison, Camden; his loyal companion, Dude; his siblings, Harriet (Steve) Prescott, Don Hartlerode, Janet (Kurt) Lindeman, David (Marta) Hartlerode, Kathy Sudweeks, Rebecca (Ordelle) Kemp, Jennifer (Drew) Christenson. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Roberta Bleak; his grandchildren, Charlie and Max McLachlan; and his favorite “yayhoo”, Annette Christensen.
