Larry Gydesen died on October 16, 2018 in Sandy, Utah at the age of 79. He was born on February 19, 1939 in Scotia, Nebraska. Larry married Betty Muehling on November 14, 1958.
Larry was born and raised on a farm in Scotia Nebraska. After marrying “the love of his life”, they moved to Denver, Colorado. There, they started their family and his career in the Corrugated Industry. Later, they moved to Salt Lake City. He started Deseret Container with his family. Together they built a successful business including a location in Phoenix, Arizona. After much consideration, he decided it was time to retire from Corrugated.
He was much too active to stay in the “retirement” mode. He started volunteer work and later became known as “Larry the Food Man”. For 14 years, 7 days a week, he would take food to multiple shelters, missions, and families in need.
Recently, Larry and Betty moved to Mesquite, Nevada to enjoy their condo and the beautiful weather, but with a decline in Larry’s health they returned to Salt Lake City. Larry passed peacefully at home and will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he has touched.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; daughters, Marti (Dan) Newman, Teresa Sorensen, and Wendy (John) Erdmann; grandchildren, Sharmaine (Talon), Brittany (Ryan), Savanna (Tyson), Ashley, Tanner, Kelsey (Jordan), and Zach; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Steve and 3 great-grandsons.
