Obituary for Laron Fred Woods, Age 76, Died on December 12. 2024, in Brigham City, Utah. He was born on November 4, 1948, in Pioche, Nevada, to Ruth Schuenman and Luther Eugene Woods. He married Patsy Elizabeth Maxwell on August 14, 1971. Laron played high school football, served and opened a Spanish-speaking LDS mission in Miami, Florida, and received three BA degrees (social work, police science, and elementary/special education.) He was a teacher, served in the US Army as an MP, was a police officer and volunteer fireman in Panaca, Nevada, and served on search and rescue for Iron County Jeep Posse.
Laron was a land surveyor and an avid amateur in radio (ham radio) (call sign NO7C). He loved emergency communications and helped design the new emergency communication systems for the hospital in Tremonton, Utah, as well as select their new ham radio. He taught classes for others to get certified in amateur radio, as well as Morse code (part of the Utah Radio Net.) He was involved in the emergency response and communications for Brigham City’s Peach Days and the bicycle races. Laron also enjoyed many hobbies and was always learning and reading.
He was heavily involved in the Dutch oven society for a long time and helped write the 2002 Lodge Dutch Oven Cookbook for the Olympics. Not only was he a master Dutch oven bread maker and caterer, but Laron and Pat won many awards and were invited to the world championships. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting. He avidly followed U of U football and the Iditarod dog sled races. You could often find him enjoying a western, James Bond, or cop movie. He loved music and singing; he had a very captivating voice. There was a time when he was in a country western band, where he sang and played bass. He was very artistic and loved art, painting, and coloring. There was never a day that he would miss Bingo.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Woods, Daughters, Larinda, Kristy (Jairred), son, Kevin, eight grandchildren, and he was very proud of his two great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Gene Woods, and brother, Phares Woods.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM. There will be a viewing from 12:00-2:00 PM at Redwood Memorial in West Jordan, Utah 84123. Laron was loved by many and will be missed dearly
