Larae Piercy

February 7, 1951 — August 14, 2018

LaRae Piercy, born February 7, 1951, in Oakland, California to Raymond W. Piercy Jr. and Anona Merrill Piercy passed away on August 14, 2018, in Salt Lake City, Utah. LaRae was the first born of five and the first grandchild in the Piercy family. She was adored by her grandparents and great grandma and her sweet nature captured everyone’s attention. She was a delightful child and everyone that knew her loved her.
At around age four, she was diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy (which nowadays would be recognized as autism).
LaRae started school in Oakland, CA, but the family later moved to Concord, CA, when she was in first grade. In the fourth grade, her teacher recognized that she needed to be placed into special education and from then on she did very well and graduated from Concord High School in 1969.
Every Saturday LaRae would attend the special needs activity program and met Ronald Miller and they married at home in 1974. On their tenth anniversary, they were sealed in the Oakland Temple but later divorced.
LaRae lived in different group homes after her parents went on a mission and moved to Salt Lake City. During that time she developed a special relationship with her brother Wayne and Georgia’s family. She was always considered a member of the family for special occasions. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews who looked forward to her reading to them when she came over.
LaRae moved to Salt Lake City, UT, to be with her parents in 2009 and later found a volunteer job as a teacher’s aide for 1st grade students at Roosevelt Elementary School for 6 years. She loved the children and they loved her as well. She was very theatrical while reading to the students and they were captivated by her.
LaRae was a great support to her mother during the illness of her father. After he passed away, she was looking for a senior living facility where they could live together and she could be happy after her mother’s passing (that was the plan). LaRae and Anona lived at the Chateau Brickyard in Salt Lake City for three years. Everyone around her was her friend because she made friends so easily by being outgoing and showing everyone that she cared about them.
LaRae is preceded in death by her father Raymond, brother Kenneth, and grandparents. She is survived by her mother Anona, siblings Gayle (Kim), Dan (Heather), Wayne (Georgia), 15 nieces and nephews, and 31 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held August 20, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Millstream Ward, 1100 East 3400 South, Salt Lake City, UT, with an hour prior viewing at noon. Interment to follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodland Park Care Center and St. Mark’s Hospital for the tender care given to LaRae.
