Larae Mcdonald

October 10, 1925 — February 12, 2015

Salt Lake City — LaRae Lyman McDonald passed from this life Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the age of 89. She was born in Salt Lake City, October 10, 1925 to the late Waldo Wilkin Lyman and the late Fannie Klineman Lyman. She was also preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Don Arch McDonald.
Mom is survived by her four children, Alan Scott McDonald of Cave Creek, AZ; Joanne Liddle (Rodger) of Durham, NC; Mark Lyman McDonald (Lani) of Bluffdale, UT; Todd Patrick McDonald (Bekah) of Aurora, CO; sister, Donna Jean Walker in Mesa, AZ; 7 grandchildren — Emily Brogan (Mark), Sloane Wootton (Brent), Patrick Liddle (Katie), Dylan, James, Jordan McDonald, Teesha Lindgren, 4 great grandchildren, Kendall, Maci, Conner, Clara and her loyal dog, Dolly who was placed in a new and loving family.
LaRae was blessed by God with a full life. She was loved and loved well. Her marriage and her children were her most important priorities and when time finally permitted, LaRae became quite the bowler and bridge player, refining these skills up until her mid-eighties. As a devoted mother and wife, LaRae would constantly ply her family with her fabulous pies and cookies. Even though she did not eat or like any fruit, she made the best peach and apple pies for her family, her neighbors and friends. Coffee each morning, afternoon and evening, usually with a friend who would drop by, was one of her joys.
With the passing of time dementia set in and LaRae’s family had to sell her home and move her into Highland Cove Retirement Community where she lived happily for eight years with the wonderful care and concern provided there. While at Highland Cove her friend and former neighbor, Debbie Rounds made sure she got out to breakfast at Sharon’s each Sunday and a coffee outing when possible during the week. Mom unfortunately, fell and broke her hip September 8, 2014. Her last few months were spent at Carrington Court in the Memory Care unit, where she received loving care by the staff and her dear son, Mark and his family who lived nearby.
In lieu of flowers the family would like to suggest a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, 855 east 4800 south, Salt Lake City, 84107 or the Humane Society of Utah, 4242 south 300 West, Murray, Utah 84107.
