Lance McDonald Temple, 68, died on June 26, 2018 at home with his family after a one year bout with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) /Leukemia. Lance was born on November 5, 1949 to Keith and Ruth Patricia McDonald Temple, the youngest of four children. He graduated from Skyline High School and the University of Utah. He received a Masters of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University in 1976. He worked for the Salt Lake County Health Department for 18 years and the Salt Lake County Library System for 14 years doing accounting and administrative work. He retired on December 31, 2009. Lance was a devoted father, grandfather, husband, and brother. He met his first wife Janice Lynne Fails at BYU and was married to her in the Los Angeles Temple in 1975. They adopted two children Erin Lynne in 1980 and Morgan Lance in 1986. They were married 25 years before her passing in 2001. He married his second wife, Peggy Lynette Ruckman, in 2005. Peggy had one daughter Chadelle from a previous marriage. He loved watching college sports, television comedies and movies with friends and family. He played the guitar until arthritis prevented it. He loved choral music and sang tenor in church choirs until thyroid cancer affected his voice. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports or do other activities. He had multiple health problems during his life, but he faced them with courage and faith. He loved making people laugh and always had a smile or kind words for others. Lance was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the Church in the state of Washington. He served faithfully in many different church callings during his life with his last being as an assistant in the ward High Priests Group. He loved the gospel and taught all ages from primary children to adults. He is now in Heaven with his loved ones.
Lance is survived by wife Peggy, his step daughter Chadelle (Ryan) Goodfellow, daughter Erin Young, son Morgan Temple, his brother Anthony R. (Mary K) Temple and his sister Pamela R. (Brent) Evans. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice, his parents and his sister Lauren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Sun Ridge Ward, 5422 South Sarah Jane Drive, Kearns, Utah with a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. Interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery 7800 South 3115 East, Cottonwood Heights, Utah following the funeral.Service Information
