Lance Klotovich passed away unexpectedly at Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 5, 2017 surrounded by his family after a six year battle with Lyposarcoma. Forever the optimist, it was with grace, humor, and dignity that Lance fought his cancer battle, forever determined to overcome it, even as he continued to work until his death.
Lance was born in Cache County, Utah on July 19, 1960 to Mark Mitchell Klotovich and Elaine Jenson. He married Georgia Lynn Martin on July 26, 1991 in West Jordan. Upon graduating from Bingham High School in 1978, Lance drove off in the show room model 1978 black and gray Dodge Power Wagon with red pin striping. Immediately, he added a lift kit and this truck became his identity.
Golf was Lance’s passion and something he continued throughout his life. He made many friends at his home course of Mountain View in the early 80’s and won the club championship. Hanging out at Mountain View in those years was like watching or being in the movie Caddy Shack. Good times and constant hilarity!
The show Jeremiah Johnson, starring Robert Redford, was a favorite of Lance’s. An avid outdoorsman, Lance and Georgia spent much time in the mountains fishing and camping with their dogs Frito and Samantha and later Penny. And Lance did love his doggies and they adored him.
As a skilled craftsman and carpenter, Lance worked as a foreman in the construction industry. As a hobby, Lance enjoyed building furniture and making gifts for his family. In later years, Lance took to pie making, bringing specialty pies to Thanksgiving dinners to surprise his family. He also was a master at using his smoker and preparing Thanksgiving dinners with Georgia.
Anyone who knows Lance well knows of his mink farming. Working alongside his father Mark, who started the farm in 1966, Lance acquired many duties at a young age and became integral to the daily operations of running the farm.
Lance was a quiet man who was never quick to anger. Humor was always his standard retort. He and Georgia also volunteered at a camp for children with cancer.
Both Lance and Georgia enjoyed watching sports in their recliners, especially football. Despite their best intentions, often they would fall asleep 10 minutes into the game side by side.
When asked what his perfect day would be, Lance said it would be to tee off at 6:00 a.m., play 18 holes of golf, finish by 11:00, and then go on with his day.
Lance is survived by his wife Georgia, his father Mark Klotovich, mother Elaine Jenson Klotovich, brother Kevan Klotovich, all of West Jordan, and sister Sherese Klotovich Merrill (Brad) of Providence, Utah.
