Klaaske (Nicky) Hofman

April 2, 1927 — March 29, 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Klaaske Hofman of Murray, Utah, passed away on March 29, 2021.
Klaaske, or Nicky, as everyone knew her, was born on April 2, 1927 in Bodegraven, Netherlands. Daughter of Ale and Joanna Venema, Nicky was one of five daughters and one son. The family remained in Holland until after World War II, when they immigrated to Canada. On November 24th, 1956, Nicky married Marinus Hofman in Sarnia, Ontario. They had two children, Paul & Judy. Soon after Judy was born, the family immigrated to Salt Lake City, UT.
Nicky was a dedicated housewife and mother while her children were young. When they were grown, she worked for the Salt Lake City school board for many years, followed by housekeeping for many families throughout the Salt Lake valley, to whom she became very close. After retirement, she began caring for her grandchildren by taking them to and from school, and spending summers as their caregiver.
Nicky was a devout Christian and lifelong member of the Christian Reformed Church in Salt Lake. She would also often attend the Sonrise Baptist Church with her son. Shortly after her 80th birthday, she joined the Taylorsville Senior Center Harmonica Band and played with them for over 10 years, performing at senior centers and county facilities. That truly was a gift that brought her so much joy, particularly performing songs with her dear friend Rosie. Nicky was always so caring and kind to everyone she met. She was spunky, witty, and loved to laugh. She never ran out of stories to tell. She was blessed with the “gift of gab”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her children, Paul (Lori) Hofman, & Judy (Scott) Wiley; grandchildren, Danielle (David) Pugh, Kendall (Ashlee) Wiley, Ariel (Ryan) Watson, & Joshua Hofman; many nieces and nephews, four great-grandchildren (Radley, Kaylee, Lillee & Knox), and was anxiously awaiting the birth of another great-granddaughter, Adelaide due to be born in May.
