Kirby Allen Mecham

January 4, 1949 — October 9, 2017

Kirby Mecham, 68, passed away on October 9, 2017 surrounded by his family, following a massive stroke.  He was born on January 4, 1949 in American Fork, UT to Wilmer P. Mecham and Orpha Taylor Mecham.  He was the much hoped for baby brother to 3 older sisters.  He graduated from Granite High School, attended Brigham Young University, and served an LDS mission in Tampa, Florida.  He met his sweetheart Marcia Moore in October, 1975 and baptized her into the LDS church.  They were married on February 27, 1976 in Salt Lake City, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  They were blessed with one daughter, Shauna.

Kirby had a quiet, gentle demeanor.  He loved to learn and research, and loved science, animals, bugs, star-gazing, reading, nature, and BYU football.  He took great pleasure in creating his own science experiments.  He was very smart and always had all the answers.  He loved the gospel and had a strong testimony.  He cherished his wife and daughter and her family.  He adored his two grandsons and they loved spending time with him and learning from him.

Kirby is survived by his wife, Marcia; daughter, Shauna (Carl) Curtis; grandsons, Garrett and Milo; sisters, Daphne (Roy) Whitworth, Verla (Alan) Jones, Brenda (Glen) Crooks; stepmom, Wanda Mecham Allred; many nieces, nephews, and loving in-laws.  He is preceded in death by his parents.
