Kim Bert Pickering

On February 18, 2025, Kim Bert Pickering, 68, was welcomed to heaven after a courageous 3-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed peacefully with the love of his life by his side, surrounded by children and grandchildren at his beautiful home. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and adventure.

Kim was born on June 8, 1956, to Wendell and Esther Pickering in St. George. He grew up in the small town of Enterprise, Utah, where he learned the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance from an early age. His roots in the area shaped much of his character. From a young age, he learned that by the sweat of his brow, he could build the life he wanted.

Kim married the love of his life, Sondra DeMille, on November 15, 1980. Together, they embarked on a 45-year adventure filled with joy, pain, laughter, tears, and countless memories. Kim was known to many as one of the hardest-working individuals out there, a true human bulldozer. His expertise in the concrete world made him a master of all trades and a jack of none. He took personal ownership of every job or task, ensuring the result was always up to his high standard of quality and beauty. His works of art can be seen across the state of Utah from Zion to Deer Valley. Each project is a testament to his craftsmanship and his commitment to excellence. Sealed with his personal guarantee that “It’ll crack, and nobody will steal it.”

But beneath the tough exterior was a tender-hearted teddy bear who loved deeply. Kim’s warmth made him an instant friend to everyone who crossed his path. He was known as the fun dad, the fun uncle, the fun neighbor, and the fun grandpa. He worked hard to provide the most amazing life he could for his wife and kids. His generosity made its way to all who knew him and some who didn't. Whether it was cruising around on his snowmobiles, taking the green boat out on the water, or driving the yellow golf cart to parades on the Fourth of July. He found joy in sharing his love for adventure with those closest to him, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Kim had a deep love for Hawaii, where he delighted in wearing his Tommy Bahama shirts and soaking in the tropical sun that recharged him. His style was as much a part of his character as his strong hands. He took pride in the meticulous care of his yard, filling every corner with vibrant plants and trees. The few times he did take a moment to relax, it was by his streams, gazing up at his beloved Wasatch Mountain view.

Kim is survived by his devoted wife, Sondra Bombshell Pickering; his children, Stefanie, Cody (Ashlyn), Cassidy, and Zach; and his grandchildren, Addie, Nora, and Kimball. He is reunited in heaven with his daughter, Heather (stillborn); his parents, Wendell and Esther Pickering; his older brother; his in-laws; and his favorite grandma, Mary.

Kim was our unwavering rock, our source of stability, always there for us to lean on. Not a day will go by without his family deeply missing his anchoring presence.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the kindness and support shown to them during this time. The memories shared about Kim have brought love and laughter to their hearts.

A celebration of Kim’s life will be held on Sunday, March 9th, at 5:00 PM at Red Butte Gardens. All guests are invited to walk through the gardens before the event.

His ashes will be laid to rest alongside a beautiful, flowing stream at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary.
