Kim Derrick

December 3, 1954 — December 26, 2018

Kim passed away on December 26th after a lifelong battle with debilitating health problems.
Kim was born in Salt Lake City on December 3, 1954, to Lee Richard and Carolyn Redd Derrick.  She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, Casper, Wyoming, and Denver, Colorado, but spent most of her adult life in Glendale, Arizona.
Her natural organizational skills served her well in her work as a technical writer for several electronics companies in both Utah and Arizona, including Evans & Sutherland, as well as being a published writer.
Despite crippling pain and fatigue, Kim filled the world with creativity.  She was a gifted photographer, photographic artist, watercolor artist, and was skilled at needlework of all kinds.
Endlessly curious, she delighted in reading and learning everything she could, just for the pure pleasure of it.  Kim was a natural born teacher; taking great joy in passing on the knowledge she gained, especially to her fascinated little sister.
She was an avid genealogist; connecting thousands of family members and extending our family tree back centuries. Her attention to detail and analytical skills helped with her volunteer work for the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, proofreading and helping to correct the Medieval Lands project.
Kim was preceded in death by her father Lee.  She is survived by her mother Carolyn, and sisters Karen and Kelly.
Kim didn’t want a funeral so, there will be a short graveside service at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
Kim’s family expresses their deep, heartfelt thanks for the kind and loving care given by the doctors and nurses of Intermountain Home Hospice, Dr. Lucinda Bateman, and Dr. Landon Beales.
We thank her for the privilege of being her family.  We are honored to have been a part of her temporal life and look forward to being reunited for eternal life with her.  Her love is a precious gift in our lives.
