Kim Dao, Born December 31, 1935 in Huong Yen, North Vietnam. Died due to complications of a broken hip, November 14, 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Age 83.
Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Mother was a strong and determined woman. She was a survivor!
She was separated from her family when she was 10 to be reunited 51 years later. She made it through the Vietnam War selling produce and doing laundry, while raising a daughter. After surviving the refugee camp she and her daughter Lynna immigrated to the United States in 1991.
Mom wanted to become a US citizen, and she accomplished that goal and was proud to be an American!
Mom was a good grandmother and spent a lot of time with her grandson Charlie.
She had a wish to become a great-grandma, this happened with her beautiful great-grandson Eddie. She was the only one of her 6 siblings to become one.
Our mother’s final wish was to find her long lost son of 43 years. Thanks to DNA testing and genealogy she was able to accomplish this goal and found Francisco and his family. Through technological advances she was able to meet her son and his children, her grand children, Maëlys and Florian while they lived in France. She was able to meet Francois early last summer and had a very special visit, while getting to know each other.
Kim is survived by her son, Jean Francisco Martin, his wife Christine, their children Maëlys and Florian Martin; her daughter Lynna Dao and her significant other Long Le; her grandson Charlie Minh Le, his significant other Bailey Treanor and their son Eddie Josh Le.
The family wishes to express their thanks for her significant other West Caswell. He stayed by her side for the last 25 years and took good care of her to the end. Together they shared a colorful and caring friendship. They also share two pups, Monica and Baby Girl.
