February 13th, 2020, our family said goodbye to this brave soldier. Kent Sherman Ricord, age 69, fought with fierce bravery against a rare, aggressive, and vicious type of cancer (Collecting Duct Carcinoma).
Kent was born August 22nd, 1950, to Edison W. Ricord and Elda May Gray. Kent was truly young at heart, and was known for his love of animals, comic books, wrestling, super-heroes, candy, and Mountain Dew. He was a true patriot who loved serving his country. He joined the Marines when he was 18 years old and was honorably discharged in 1972. Then in 1985, he went dual status in the U.S. Army, where he served in the Iraq War. Kent loved serving in the military until his retirement in 2010 as a CW3 (Chief Warrant Officer 3). He never judged his fellow men, and always chose to help those in need.
Before his passing, Kent expressed how blessed, and lucky he was to have loving family members, and true friends who supported him in life. He leaves behind his family here in the U.S. including his five younger siblings; Curtis, Clayton, Coleen, Carla, and Coral, his five children; Camie (David), Rory (Tanya), Chan (Kristen), Clint (Megan) and Amara. He also leaves behind his family in the Philippines, including his wife Helen, and their children Francis, Firlen, and Nathan. Kent has 21 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He truly loved being a grandpa, and a “papa”. Kent is proceeded in death by his oldest sister Della, and his parents.
He truly will be missed, and we all wish we had more time with him. We want to thank everyone at the Salt Lake VA Hospital, Stonehenge Nursing Facility, and The Huntsman Cancer Institute, who treated Kent with exceptional care, patience, and love. Rest in peace, Chief.
Private services were held by family, and his burial will take place on March 9th, 2020.
