Kent Mackay Acomb

Our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Kent MacKay Acomb, left this life on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at St. Mark’s Hospital.
He was born to Leland Irvine Acomb and Alice MacKay on June 28, 1923, in Salt Lake City. He married Helen Jeanine Heusser on August 12, 1955, celebrating nearly 63 years of marriage. Together they have three children; Joyce (John) Larsen, Leslie (Tim) Schow, and Stanford (Robin); fourteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Kent served as a dental surgeon for the United States Army from 1957 until his retirement in 1982, having achieved the rank of Colonel. During this time, he traveled the world with his family. He was a lover of the arts and volunteered with the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition for many years. A proponent of lifelong learning, Kent acquired four college degrees, two of them after retiring from the Army. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his car which always found its way to the ice cream store with his children or grandchildren, his consideration and love for his wife, and his kindness and concern for everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanine; his children; thirteen of his grandchildren; and his four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Allan, Dale, and Glenn; and his grandson, Stanford Mark Larsen.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Drive.  A viewing will take place the evening before, Friday, July 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
