Kent Mack Stoddart

March 16, 1949 — July 21, 2021

Kent Mack Stoddart, age 72, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021, in Lehi, UT, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, surrounded by his devoted wife Valeri and their children. He was born on March 16, 1949, in Salt Lake City, UT to Herbert M Stoddart and Norma Louise Bain Stoddart.  He grew up in Rose Park playing baseball, basketball, and golf with his three brothers and attended West High School. He married Valeri Robyn Butterfield on February 14, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple. Kent is survived by his wife Valeri, his brothers Lynn and Glen, and his children Jodi and John Hancey, Rob and Kristi Stoddart, Stephanie and Todd Schmidt, Brett and Kelly Stoddart, Nate and Nancy Stoddart, Angela and Dan Phelps, Jon Stoddart and Rachel Hawkins, and Jamie and TaNeil Stoddart, in addition to his 29 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Kay, and his brother Bruce, with whom he is now joyfully reconnecting.
Kent was a family man at heart. He loved to plan family vacations and make special memories with his eight children. He was a lifetime University of Utah fan, where he earned his degree in Computer Science, later earning a Master of Science degree at Johns Hopkins University. Kent loved to cheer on the Utes with his children and grandchildren. He was an accomplished software engineer and enjoyed sharing his work experiences with his friends and family. He was especially proud of the time he spent working on top secret military aerospace projects that dramatically advanced aircraft technology in both flight controls and communications.
Kent was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation. He had especially fond memories of serving in the bishopric, as an early morning Seminary teacher, and with the youth. He served a mission for the church in Helsinki, Finland, and enjoyed recalling his special memories from his time of service there. He also served two service missions with his wife in his later years. Kent had a sweet tooth and loved treats. You could often find him snacking on mint chocolate chip ice cream and Dunkers. He was always looking for a good joke and loved to laugh at himself. We will deeply miss the smiles he brought to our faces.
