Kent Lamar Smith

Kent LaMar Smith, 86, passed away October 1st 2021 peacefully at home. Kent was born on September 11, 1935 in Salt Lake City, UT to Anthony William Smith and Nina Musetta Erickson.
As a child Kent was in an accordion band and performed in the first Salt Lake City TV program. Kent loved boxing as a teenager. He served our country in the US Army Infantry from 1954 to 1957 and he loved to parachute out of airplanes. Kent earned an Accounting degree from LDS Business College and became a CPA. He worked as an Accountant for Kennecott Copper for many years. Later Kent earned his Masters in Accounting with the University of Phoenix. He also worked as an Auditor for the State of Utah’s Health Department for many years. Kent was an active runner, he ran 5 Marathons in Salt Lake, Kearney, AZ, and Kona, HI. He was also a certified scuba diver and black belt. Kent loved his family and serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He particularly loved serving in the Jordan River Temple.
He is survived by his wife Diane “Dannie” Smith, who tenderly cared for him for the past 6 years of his decline with dementia, 13 children: Sindy Smith, Gerri Smith, Jacquline Smith, David Smith-Harrison, Tracy Smith, Steven Smith, Scott Smith, Micheal Smith, Erica van Dijk, Rachelle Kunkel, Sarah Larsen, Tess Smith, and Trinity Smith, 28 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren
Graveside Services will be held on October 6, 2021 at 11:30 am at the Salt Lake City Cemetery; 200 N St E , SLC, Utah, 84103. A viewing will be held the same day at 10:00 am at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary; 10055 S State St, Sandy, Utah, 84070, interment to follow at the Salt Lake Cemetery.
