Kenneth Ridges Farley

February 23, 1929 — September 29, 2021

Kenneth Ridges Farley, age 92, passed away peacefully and was reunited with his beloved Betty on September 29, 2021 in Holladay, Utah surrounded by his loving family.
Kenneth was born February 23, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth George and Jennis Ridges Farley. His childhood was spent working on the family farm in Holladay. After graduating from Granite High School in 1947, he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ to the Eastern States where he would establish a foundation of faith that would direct his entire life. As a missionary he met his future wife, the late Betty Tanner, during her service in the same mission. The two were married on September 14, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage prior to Betty’s passing in 2017. Ken and Betty together raised a family of ten children in Holladay, Utah. He attended the University of Utah for a short time, pausing his studies to work as a research chemist to support his growing family. After their last child was born, he returned to the university and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry in 1973. He retired in 1989 after working at the US Bureau of Mines in Salt Lake City for 35 years.
Kenneth was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding many leadership and teaching callings. He served many years with his sweetheart as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. They later served a full-time mission together in the Richmond, Virginia mission. In addition to his deep faith, he was an avid outdoorsman, hiking and fishing throughout the Rockies of Utah and Canada. He in turn taught his children and grandchildren to love the outdoors as he did.
Kenneth is survived by his sister, Jennis (Robert) Andelin; four daughters, Alice (Ernie) Dawson, Diane (Reed) Bruderer, Marilyn (Dennis) Moss and Suzanne (Brian) Anderson; daughter-in-law Jackie (West) Farley; four sons, Richard (Denise) Farley, Steven (Terri) Farley, Robert (Kimi) Farley and Douglas (Becky) Farley; 55 grandchildren and 76 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sisters Ann (Fred) Goldthorpe and Jane (Jack) Buckmiller, daughter Carolyn Christiansen, son Joseph Farley, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
