Kenneth Harley Monson, age 85, died October 4, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on April 17, 1930 in Smithfield, Utah to Harley Winford and Leah Smith Monson. He married Jean C. Monson in the Logan LDS Temple on August 4, 1954.
Kenneth graduated from the U of U after 2 years at Utah State, and was a Retired Lt. Colonel of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Ken adored his Shaq shorts, the History Channel, Diet Coke, gummy bears, peanut M&Ms, and Oreo’s, but let’s be honest – anything sweet! He had a nickname for everyone.
Ken is survived by his wife Jean C. Monson; sons Lantz (Pam) Monson, Neil C. (Julie) Monson, Drew C. (Martina) Monson; brother Dale (Judy) Monson; sisters Marty (Bill) Bullen, Peggy (Randy) Olsen, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, VaLois Atkins and Janet Monson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, October 8th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Murray Bellview Chapel, 6300 South 300 East. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9th at the Murray Bellview Chapel. Interment will be in the Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
