Kenneth Harold Dugdale Sr.

April 7, 1928 — March 16, 2022

Kenneth Harold Dugdale, three weeks shy of his 94th birthday, passed peacefully from pneumonia at 9:52 pm on March 16, 2022, in the Salt Lake VA Hospital. We would like to thank the VA Hospital and staff, they treated Ken very well, with dignity and kindness. His final trip down the hallway was on a United States Flag draped gurney with all working staff standing along the hallway to send him off with respect.
He was born on April 7, 1928, in Helper, Utah, to Florence Mae and Edmund Moroni Jr. Dugdale. He was the youngest of four children.
He married Lena Mae Hainsworth on October 22, 1949, in Elko, Nevada. Their union was
solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 7, 1960. Ken and Lena were blessed with four children, Connie Lee, Kenneth Harold Jr., Timothy Neal, and Patricia. The family lived in Washington, Michigan, and Utah and shared many adventures with family and friends, camping, water skiing, fishing, and snow skiing.
Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, and his eldest daughter Connie Dean.
Ken is survived by his children, Ken Jr. (Robin), Tim (Carolyn) and Patty (Ed). He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and rejoiced and enjoyed their many talents and accomplishments.
Ken served honorably in the United States Navy on submarines during the end of World War II. He was on leave when he met his sweetheart, Lena.
Ken worked many years in construction as a bricklayer, stone mason, job foreman, and owner of his own company. He built many homes, schools and commercial buildings around the Salt Lake Valley including the LDS Church Office Building where he swears the Angel Moroni winked at him.
He served his God faithfully in many church callings. He enjoyed working in the Salt Lake Temple with his wife and continued after her death. He also completed a Church Building Mission in the Northeastern United States. He would go from city to city and find and hire crews to work on buildings through construction and then move on to the next.
Ken enjoyed his time on the golf course, his friends, gardening and sharing his Utah tomatoes.
As his eyesight deteriorated, he handled his life with grace and confidence. He loved listening to books on tape from the Utah State Library for the Blind. Continued going on daily walks in the Park (weather permitting). Visits with his loved ones made him happy. He was very grateful to his children for taking him into their homes in his later years. He would also like a special thank you to Ken and Robin for taking such good care of him during the COVID years and in his final days.
The memorial service will be held Monday May 23rd, at noon, at Redwood Memorial Estates.
