Dr. Kenneth Robert Anderson
April 4, 1930 to March 5, 2018
“A life filled with unselfish service will also be filled with peace that surpasses understanding.”
Howard W. Hunter
Kenneth Robert Anderson, age 87, passed away Monday afternoon, March 5, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 4, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lillian Roberts Anderson and Vernon Andrew Anderson.
He graduated from South High School, The University of Utah and Northwestern University Dental School. He faithfully served a LDS mission in the Hawaiian Islands including ministering in the Leper Colony on the Island of Molakai. Upon returning home, he was drafted into the Army where he proudly served his Country.
He married his eternal companion, MaryAnne Sorensen, on March 18, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children and a great posterity that meant everything to him. The center of our family has always been his sweet wife whom he loved and cherished beyond words and everything flowed from there. He taught his family how to have fun in everything we did including all night card games (until he won), spending time at the family cabin, boating at Lake Powell and the nearby lakes, cruising and golfing with family and friends. He was an avid Utah fan. Every time the Utes took the court or field, the big red U was lit in the window. If you were lucky enough to be his friend, you were his friend for life!
Ken was a natural born leader who loved his callings and had a firm and abiding testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ whom he strived to emulate his entire life. He carried a joy and light that radiated through everything he did. He lifted, he loved, he testified and taught. He took care of the down trodden and discouraged and made the world a better place through his selfless service. He inspired everyone around him. He loved serving and leading in all his callings, including numerous Bishoprics, as a Bishop, and a counselor in a Stake Presidency.
Dr. Ken loved being a dentist. He was an artist in his craft. Dad always helped the needy and the missionaries who were preparing for service. He loved his patients and considered them friends. He continued his missionary work with his patients who were a captive audience for 45 minutes at a time. Many of his children were lucky enough to work for him.
Ken and MaryAnne had many lifelong friends that they loved to travel with, attend the Theatre, the Symphony, Utah football and basketball games, Study Groups, Temple Groups and Dinner Groups.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife, MaryAnne, his five children, Shari (Don) Alger, Mike (Sherry) Anderson, Julie Anderson, Steve (Tami) Anderson, Kristen (Ira) Baker, 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Max, Jeane (Duane) Hillam, Betty (Norm) Hyatt and two great grandchildren, Thor Wayne Thompson and Maely Grace Anderson.
The family would like to express thanks to his beloved care givers and staff at Cascades at Riverwalk and Summit Hospice Care.
