May 13, 1930 — April 30, 2014

Kenetta “Kit” C. Barton
“Loving mother & Grandmother”
Kenetta (Kit) Candland Barton, 83, South Jordan, UT, and the Holladay-Cottonwood area in the Salt Lake Valley, UT, passed away on a bright, brisk morning, Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
Kit was born to the late Kenneth Eugene Candland and Adella Holman in a loving home on a beautiful country lane in Fountain Green, UT., May 13, 1930. She graduated from Moroni High School. She married the late Robert Ivan Barton of Manti, UT, on June 4, 1948 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Kit is survived by her children, Brent R. Barton (wife, Ruby Arbon); Susan Barton Yerkes (husband, Raymond D., deceased); Judy Barton Jensen (husband, Jon M.); Kevan L. Barton (wife, Cynthia Griffin); and Shawn D. Barton (wife, Kimberly Ferrel). She is also the proud matriarch of 15 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren.
Kit worked scooping ice cream at Fernwood’s, selling fabric at Singers, and selling fine jewelry at Auerbach’s and JC Penney. For many years she served as a docent at the Beehive House, the Salt Lake LDS Temple Square, and the LDS Church History Museum. She was a pink lady at the Cottonwood Hospital, and a temple worker at the South Jordan LDS temple. Additionally, Kit was an active member and local leader of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and enjoyed the Red-Hat Society.
Kit loved serving others and had many friends. All who knew her will remember her wit. She had a wanderlust that couldn’t be beat, having seen much of the world as far away as Istanbul and Beijing. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, oil painting; was an accomplished floral designer, an interior designer and gardener. But, her true skill was with her children and grandchildren, ensuring those local and distant felt her love, attention, and time. We’ll remember the times sharing her orange-rolls, the extraordinary Easter egg hunts, scaling the turrets of distant castles, the festively decorated holidays, the card games, the strolls along burbling canyon brooks, the quiet times sitting next to her under a shading tree chatting and reading; her touch, her voice, her love…..
A viewing will be held from 09:30 to 10:30AM on Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Mountain View Memorial Estates Chapel located at 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121. Her funeral service will commence afterwards at 11:00AM at the same location. Kit will be interred with her husband at Mountain View Memorial Estates, Cottonwood Heights, UT.
Our family would like to thank Legacy House of South Jordan and Brighton Hospice for their attentive care and love of our dear mother.
