Ken Taylor Jarvis

Ken Taylor Jarvis, age 77. Ken passed away from health complications following a brief hospital stay on Saturday 29th June 2024 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born on Friday June 13th 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT to Lee Taylor Jarvis and Jeanette Ruth Bowers. He married Patty Jean Weidauer on Friday January 28th 1972 in Salt Lake City.

Ken was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from East High School in 1965 and served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the California South Mission from 1966-1968. After his mission Ken lived in Chicago for a year before returning to Salt Lake City where he met Patty Weidauer at the Sears Roebuck Store on 700 S and State Street. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Friday January 28th 1972. In October 1973 Patty and Ken welcomed their first son Jason. In 1975 they moved to Costa Mesa California and in August 1976 they welcomed their oldest daughter, Kia. In December 1978 Erika was born. In September 1976 Ken enrolled in the Orange County Police Academy for Costa Mesa. In 1979 The Jarvis family returned to Utah and settled in West Bountiful. In June 1980 their second son and final child Christopher was born. Ken retired from law enforcement in 2013 after 37 years of service.

Ken loved all sports but especially baseball. He could recall statistics about every player and World Series back to his childhood. His favorite team was the Yankees and he loved the Utah Utes. Ken played baseball and softball. He would spend days off at the lake and was happiest driving a boat. He referred to himself as “Mr Funny” and was renowned for his dad jokes. He loved muscle cars and dreamed of driving a convertible mustang. True to the cop stereotype he loved a good doughnut. He attended all his children and grandchildren’s activities, plays, and sporting events. Ken could fix anything with duct tape, zip ties, and bungee cords. Most of his neighbors knew him as the guy who sat in a chair on his front porch watering the lawn and spraying the kids with the hose as they rode by. Ken loved his children but not as much as his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Patty and his children Jason (Jen), Kia (Joe), and Erika (Aaron), ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Siblings Kelly Jarvis (Ruth), Scott Jarvis (Jane), Jill (), Kathy Thatcher (Tom), and Wendy Hairel (John).

He is preceded in death by his son Christopher Lee Jarvis, his sister Pat Jarvis, his parents Lee Taylor Jarvis and Jeanette Ruth Bowers.

Funeral services will be held 12pm on Saturday 6th July 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1750 N 900 W, West Bountiful, UT 84087. A viewing will be held that morning, from 10-11.30am. Following the service will be an interment at Memorial Lakeview Cemetery 1640 E. Lakeview Dr., Bountiful, UT 84010
