Kay Hansen

June 20, 1923 — November 7, 2014

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on November 7, 2014. Kay was born June 20, 1923 to Clarence and Etta May Jensen Hansen in Fountain Green, Utah. He graduated from Moroni High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for almost 3 years. Two of those years were spent in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. He married Margaret Davenport on June 4, 1945 in the Manti Temple.
Kay’s career was in the mechanical trade as a plumber, welder and pipe fitter. He became a successful mechanical contractor starting in 1960. He was president of Allied Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years. Kay served as a director and president of the Utah Mechanical Contractor’s Association. He was also director and president of the Western States Mechanical Association.
He served on many committees for the apprenticeship program of plumbing, heating and pipe fitting. He served on the Utah State Plumbing Board for 5 years. He was very active in the union and remained a union contractor. As a kind and generous man, Kay made sure the family remained close and often planned family reunions and “sister’s” parties, fish dinners, family
vacations and traveling the world. He was “well above average” and loved every opportunity to share his opinions and give great advice.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Margaret, children: Gene, Carey Joy (Lloyd) Simpson, James (Darlene), Hal (Lori), Mark, Lynn (Rina), 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his five siblings: Jewell (Elwin) Goble, Jessie (Raymond) Sudweeks, Willard (Norma) Hansen, Iona (Kenneth) Sperry and Gordon (Chloanelle) Hansen.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 12, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Millcreek 8th Ward, 4558 South 600 East, SLC. A viewing will be prior to the service from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m.. Interment at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
