Kathy Martha Maria Deus Siebenhaar of Sandy, Utah passed away on November 9, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Kathy was born in Breslau, Silesia, Germany on December 13, 1932, to Richard Fritz Deus and Gertrude Pfeiffer. The third of four children, Kathy had a happy childhood until World War II broke out. While her father was at war serving as a medic, her mother shepherded the four young children to safety after they were driven from their home in the winter of 1945 as the Russian troops approached. They were driven from several subsequent cities thereafter, never to return to Breslau. She never saw her father again, as he was killed in Italy days before the war ended.
Kathy met the love of her life, Rudy Wolfgang Siebenhaar, in Wendlingen, Germany. They married on December 1, 1951. Through good fortune, they were able to immigrate to Salt Lake City, Utah. Shortly after their arrival they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17, 1953. They worked hard, taught themselves English, and built a happy and productive life here in the United States. Kathy and Rudy enjoyed 61 years together until his death in 2013.
Kathy had interesting and varied employment experiences. She did everything from folding candy boxes, working at a German delicatessen, to being a bookkeeper for a large manufacturing company. Many of her shifts were at night so she could trade childcare duties with Rudy.
Kathy was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a simple faith and lived a truly Christlike life, always serving and caring for others. She and Rudy served a mission to the Freiberg, Germany temple from February 1997 to August 1998. There they were able to serve members of the Church from many Eastern European countries.
Kathy was the heart of her family and was ever the nurturing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worked hard to develop traditions which have lasted more than 70 years. She especially loved the tradition of going to Bear Lake. She and Rudy worked tirelessly to build a cabin there as a place of gathering for their family. Kathy was also an excellent cook and baker. Many had the pleasure of eating her German pastries and delicious sugar cookies.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Gisela, and her brother Manfred. She is survived by her son Dennis (Linda), daughter Marian Hein (Ronald), son Steve (Pam), her sister Brunhilda, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren who were the delight of her life as she aged.
