Celebrating the Life of Kathryn Kay Loveland Harward
"She taught us how to love without condition and laugh through the tears."
Kathryn Kay Loveland Harward, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and occasional card shark, completed her earthly adventure on January 29, 2025, in Park City, Utah, at the age of 80. Born on February 2, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy was the eldest of four siblings and a trailblazer in creating joy, beauty, and connection wherever she went. Her family and those fortunate enough to share in her light know that life will never quite sparkle the same without her.
With a passion for living fully, Kathy’s life was a lively blend of artistry, energy, and love. She had an undeniable flair for creativity, which blossomed during her time studying art and interior design at Utah State University. Kathy had a knack for turning spaces into reflections of her beautiful spirit; if you stepped into her home, you’d instantly feel inspired and embraced—like being wrapped in a warm, stylish hug.
"Ahead of her time, but always right on time for family fun."
Kathy was a skilled painter, music enthusiast, avid bowler, and a thrill-seeker on snow and water skis, but above all else, she was a woman devoted to her family. In 1966, she married Thomas Orin Harward, and they had four children who were the pride of her life. Though the marriage didn’t last, her unwavering commitment to her children and their happiness never wavered. Through her laughter-filled kitchen, endless adventures, and legendary Skip-Bo card games, Kathy built a home where everyone felt loved and safe.
Her four children, Angi (Blake) Bair, Amber (Jason Woodger) Wheeler, Tomi Ann (Wesley Olson) Berg, and Tyler (Anna) Harward, carry forward the values and indelible lessons she instilled in them. Lessons of resilience, deep faith, and unconditional kindness. Her legacy extends even further through her eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, each of whom she adored beyond measure.
"You never left her home empty—that includes food, advice, or a healthy dose of sass."
Kathy’s humor and warmth were as much a part of her identity as her love of card games, especially Bridge. Her dry wit and sarcastic quips were delivered with love, and her playful teasing revealed a heart full of affection. Kathy was also deeply sensitive and unafraid to explore the corners of life from which others might shy away. She cherished vulnerable conversations about spirituality, self-discovery, and the truths of life, paving the way for others to feel seen and heard.
"A heart so big that it had room for strangers and friends alike."
Kathy’s impact extended far beyond her family. She dedicated herself to serving others in quiet, profound ways. Whether inviting strangers to dinner, slipping cash to someone in need, or hiring those who needed a second chance, Kathy’s generosity was seemingly boundless. She didn’t just give of her time or resources; she gave of herself. That remarkable openness and compassion left lasting imprints on everyone crossing her path.
Preceded in death by her loving parents, Gwen and Mckay Loveland, her brother Brad (Falene) Loveland, a dear son-in-law Wade Wheeler, and her sweet granddaughter Kodi Wheeler, Kathy is now joyously reunited with them, undoubtedly organizing heavenly Skip-Bo games in her timeless style.
"She taught us the eternal truth that there’s beauty in every story and love in every heart."
Kathy knew what it meant to color outside the lines, literally and figuratively. She didn’t fit neatly into anyone else’s box, and she was proud of it. She taught her children and everyone around her that it’s okay to be different, that God loves all His children equally, and that there’s incomparable beauty in authenticity.
Kathy’s extraordinary life will be celebrated on February 15, 2025 - viewing at 10:00 am, followed by her memorial service at 11:00 am. Until then, her family invites you to honor her legacy by opening your doors, listening wholeheartedly, and living boldly with love, just as Kathy taught us.
Her memory will forever be a testament to the power of unconditional love, unshakable faith, and the immeasurable joy that comes from bringing light into the lives of others. Kathy, you showed us how to live. Now rest easy, as your spirit continues to inspire and uplift us every day.
