Katherine M Sheets

November 8, 1922 — May 1, 2021

On Saturday, May 1, 2021, in the still of the night our beloved mother danced into the arms of the angels.  Born Katherine Martha to William Wynn and Martha Ascough on November 8, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their only girl after four boys. She liked being called Kay and might not answer to any other name. She married Lawrence (Larry) Keith Sheets who pursued her for many years, you might say he chased her until she caught him. In her 98 years she mothered two sons Mark and Joe and two daughters, Judy and Shirley, followed by eleven grandchildren, 29 greatgrandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William Wynn Ascough-Haynes and his bride Martha Parsons Ascough, her brothers, Kenneth Brackin, (Dorothy) Glen Runsted, (Enid) Ronald Ascough, (Marva) and Walter Ascough , (Elizabeth), along with her son Joseph William Sheets. She is survived by her daughter Shirley Crowley (Nick), Mark Sheets, Judy Weidman (Carl) and her grands, great grands and great-great-grandchildren.
She loved cooking and baking, gardening and crocheted some beautiful pieces. She grew houseplants and she would speak to them and kept everyone entertained by telling plant stories. Her lovely hands and long beautiful fingers graced the piano, and she could honky-tonk by ear, play the mouth organ and sing, she was shy about her ability and never thought she played well, yet we all loved listening. During family jam sessions she would even grab the spoons or washboard, her rhythm was impeccable. She grew flowers and vegetables and baked bread from her ground wheat. She made the best cinnamon rolls that ever came out of an oven. She was an animal lover, and their stories were some of the best, keeping us all in stitches.  One of her most memorable traits was her humor which all adored. She charmed everyone she met. She imitated the Three Stooges, Jack Benny or even Groucho Marx or Jackie Gleason and might pull your hair under her nose as a mustache. Our dad called her Lucy after the famous Lucille Ball on I love Lucy. She was her sitcom twin. She was always about self-care in a holistic way, yet Macular Degeneration and Alzheimer’s elbowed their way into her life. All who knew her and cared for her said she was a “fighter”.  She was our sunshine on a cloudy day.
Kay will be laid to rest beside her beloved Larry and son Joe at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123 on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
