Karma Brown Rydman Layton

May 6, 1933 — September 14, 2023

Karma Brown Rydman Layton, our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother left this mortal life on September 14, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband and adoring children. Karma was born May 6, 1933, to Arthur Emil Rydman and Naoma Kistie Brown in Salt Lake City, UT. She married E. Don Layton on October 30, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Karma is survived by her husband Don and six children, Alan (Vicky), Susan (Romel), Janis, Arthur (Melinda), Bonnie (Doland), Connie (Bob), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, and her sister Karen (Lynn) Haskell. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Geraldine Belnap, brothers James Rydman and Leonard Rydman, and grandson Jake Dula.
Karma and Don have been married just shy of 71 years. When they began to date, Karma said she wouldn’t kiss anyone until she knew it was the man she was going to marry. They kissed on the 2nd or 3rd date. She waited 2 years while Don went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They married 2 weeks after he arrived home. They had many adventures as Don served in the army. They lived in San Luis Obispo and Olympia, WA while in the army. They returned to Salt Lake City and worked together to raise a great family.
Karma worked as a homemaker. She also spent many years working as a key-punch data entry specialist at Rice Health Industries and Litton Industries. She later worked in food service at the LDS office building.
Karma has been a wonderful mom to her six children and is beloved by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Without guile, she was always generous to any in need. She served devotedly in many Church capacities, inspiring children, youth, and adults with her creativity, artistic talents, dedication, and humor. As her health failed, she increasingly looked forward to reuniting with loved ones who preceded her in death; a wish now fulfilled.
A memorial will be held September 22, 2023, at 2:00 at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road with a viewing from 12:00-1:45 pm.
