Karlheinz Wilhelm Schoenrock

September 19, 1929 — January 29, 2018

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Karlheinz Wilhelm Schoenrock, age 88, passed away on January 29, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Karl, the 4th child of six children of Wilhelm Schoenrock and Ida Freiman, was born September 19, 1929, in Hamburg, Germany. As a young boy he and his family survived the Allied bombings of World War II. He worked as a chemist apprentice and met his sweetheart Waltraut Irmgard Ziegler in Germany. Coming through Ellis Island with his wife in 1952, they briefly lived in Salt Lake City and then took residence in Twin Falls, Idaho where he worked as a chemist for the Amalgamated Sugar Company. As he moved up in the company, he brought his family to Ogden, Utah.
Karl was a renowned chemist, internationally recognized for his work with the Amalgamated Sugar Co. of Ogden. In his work, he developed and perfected many of Amalgamated’s patents that were used worldwide. After an early retirement from Amalgamated, he founded Consept, a chemical consulting firm which led to work with companies emerging from Eastern Europe after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
He was truly a man for all seasons.  Karl was an avid soccer player and appreciated the outdoors with camping, gardening, skiing, and was at home touring the mountain roads on his motorcycle or tacking the wind in his sailboat on Bear Lake.
Karl was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the High Priest Group in the Shadow Valley Ward, Ogden, where he saw the Shadow Valley area grow during the 45 years that he lived in the home he built on Fillmore Ave. He held numerous positions in the church and assisted in German extraction for Genealogy.
Karl is preceded in death by his brothers: Eric and Warner; and his sisters: Ursula, Herta, and Waltraut. He is survived by his wife: Waltraut Imgard Ziegler; and their children: Heide (Bernd) Suess, Wilmer (Marsha) Schoenrock, Esther (Paul) Tucker, and Mira Schoenrock; 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
