Karen Elizabeth Black Barfuss, beloved daughter, sister, wife, teacher, and friend, passed away on 9 December 2016. She was born on 23 January 1970 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Keith James and Marilain Louise Patterson Black. She married Randy F. Barfuss 31 August 2007 in South Jordan, Utah, later solemnized in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.
She is survived by her husband Randy Barfuss, her mother Marilain Black, her siblings Robert W. Black (Lesley), Michael S. Black (Alta), John Patrick Black (Shauna), Bryan L. Black (Sherri Kay), Craig K. Black, Alicia Brady (Richard) and twin Kevin E. Black (Michelle) all living in the Salt Lake valley. She was preceded in death by her father, earlier this year, on 24 February 2016.
She loved teaching and taught elementary school for over 20 years. She graduated from Hillcrest High School, Snow College, Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah, and Master of Arts from the University of Phoenix. She received a certificate in Elementary Education and endorsements in Spanish, Educational Technology, and English as a Second Language.
She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions including Relief Society President, stake missionary, and primary presidency member.
She had a long two-and-a-half-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Her wish was to travel with her family on a cruise, which was enjoyed the last week of September 2016. She dearly loved all her nieces and nephews (and dogs).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Karen Barfuss Memorial Fund at America First Credit Union.Service Information
