Karen Rae Bertagnole passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on October 29th, 2023 at the age of 84. Karen was a kind, loving, hard working, independent, generous, compassionate, and joyful soul. She had a heart of gold, a passion for travel, laughter and making memories with her family, whom she loved more than anything else in the world.
Karen was born in Boise, Idaho and grew up in Salt Lake City, attending East High School, where she met the love of her life, Jay Bertagnole, to whom she was married for 58 years until his passing in 2015. After raising two sons on the East Canyon ranch, and working for the Utah Wool Grower's Association, she pursued her lifelong dream of working in the medical field, and worked as a medical assistant for 22 years, until retiring at the age of 73.
Karen is survived by sons Randy (Sharon) of Downey, Idaho and Shawn (Theresa) of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren Angela (Steve), Kristin (Morgan), Jeremy (Ashley), and Madeleine; great grandchildren McKenzi (Derik), Jordan, Alexis, Kollin, Valiree, Juleus, Dakota, Angelo, and Locklen; and great-great grandchildren Dustin and Lily. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Florence and Kermit “Duke” Hedberg, her stepfather Mack Stevens, and her sister Anne.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 11th, 2023 at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah, followed by a graveside service at Salt Lake City Cemetery. -"See ya later, Alligator"
