Kaete Schoepf, age 97, of Salt Lake City, Utah was reunited with her beloved husband Rudy on March 26, 2018 after a thirty year separation. Kaete, born in Henfenfeld, Germany in 1921, lived a remarkable life. She lived through the bombings of World War II in Germany, passing time in the bomb shelter with her oldest daughter Helga by singing little songs to keep Helga from being afraid. She spent months on a boat with Rudy and her two daughters in 1950 to come through Ellis Island and find their own “American Dream” with only $36 dollars to their name and a pocketful of hopes for the future. She made their family house a home, ensuring that both her daughters and the son that made their family complete always came home to a clean house and a well-cooked meal. Both Kaete and Rudy always made sure the house was full of love and laughter. Throughout her life, Kaete took the role of mother to heart, becoming Omi to not just her grandchildren, but everyone she met. She brought love and kindness into this world, and the memories she has left behind will be remembered by those who love her for years to come.
Kaete, who called herself “Queen Katarina” whenever she was feeling sassy, is survived by her three children Helga, Liz (& Larry), and Herb (& Joni); her grandchildren Greg, Gavin (& Kelly), Paige, and Sydnie; and her great grandchildren Hobie, Dakota, and Mcguire.
Following Kaete’s wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at Memorial Mortuary on 6500 S and Redwood Rd on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11am for all family and friends who would like to say goodbye.
