June Carolyn Bonner Saltzgiver was called home to her Heavenly Father the morning of September 7, 2020. June was born on September 5, 1934 in Wilson, Arkansas to Marjorie Selma Hunt and John Edward Bonner. She grew up in Arkansas until the age of 8 when her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. June attended West High school, and at the age of 16 began working at the Spudnut shop where she met her sweetheart Earl James Saltzgiver. June always said she fell in love with Earl the first time she laid eyes on him!
After a courtship of almost two years, mostly through letters while Earl was serving in the United States Air Force, June and Earl were married on June 28, 1952 in Salt Lake City. June had about a month to spend together with Earl before he was to go to England for his new assignment. When Earl returned home 18 months later, the happy couple moved to California where their first daughter Judy was born. Shortly after welcoming Judy to their family, they returned to Salt Lake City, where they made their home. After a couple of years, they built a house in the Rose Park neighborhood, and over the next several years, two more daughters, Debbie and Sherri, were born into their family. During this time of raising their young family, June began to study scriptures and investigate religion.
June grew up a member of the Methodist church, where she had many dear family members and friends. A few years after marrying Earl, June had a very special dream where she was visited by Earl’s deceased father, Roma. In this dream, June spoke with Roma about her desire to learn more of the teachings of the Mormon church. Because of this dream, and other special and sacred experiences, June chose to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July of 1958, and she has been an active member ever since. She was nervous to tell her parents of her decision, but when she spoke with her mother, Marjorie, she said, “I always knew you would join the Mormon church.” June had a strong and fervent testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and she served in many church callings over the years where she was able to share this testimony with those she served. Among her favorite church callings was the three years she spent working as an Ordinance Worker in the Salt Lake temple. During that time, she and Earl assisted with the temple Centennial celebration.
June and Earl decided to open their own business in 1973—Foremost Contact Lens Service. They worked side by side to build clientele, and enjoyed a successful family environment for their company. June worked primarily within the office portion of the business, taking phone calls and keeping the books. Foremost provided a wonderful setting for the family to spend time together, and soon became a successful company. June and Earl moved to Bountiful, Utah in 1992 and they retired from Foremost in 1996. Together, they have enjoyed retired life ever since.
During retirement, June enjoyed spending time at home with Earl, and visiting their children and grandchildren. June and Earl had the opportunity to take several trips together, which brought fun memories and life experiences. June also loved to take drives in the car with Earl, and they were regulars at Crown Burgers. June’s family members have many memories of gathering at a big table at Crown Burgers over the years to enjoy a meal together.
June was preceded in death by her parents John and Marjorie Bonner, her sister Marie Melcher, her brother James (Jimmy) Bonner, and her grandson Kevin Farnsworth. June is survived by her husband Earl Saltzgiver, her sisters Jean (John) Thomas and Jane Lowerree and her brother in law Jim Melcher; her daughters, Judy (Brad) Pack, Debbie (Corey) Farnsworth, and Sherri (Aaron) Jenkins, as well as nine grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
June lived a long life, made from many wonderful experiences. She was married to her sweetheart Earl for 68 years. Above all, she loved her family and we know that her reunion in Heaven is a grand one. May God be with you, until we meet again.Service Information
