Julia Baxter

December 8, 1942 — September 5, 2013

We sadly announce that Julia Kaye Jensen Baxter passed from earthly life on the evening of Thursday, September 5th at about 9:10 PM from causes related to ALS. She was 70 years old.
Julia was born to Loy and Mona Jensen, on December 8, 1942, in Glendale, California. Six months later the Jensen family moved back home to Rexburg, ID where Julia enjoyed a very active childhood.
Her teenage years were filled with music studies which would shape the rest of her life. She normally practiced the piano 2 to 3 hours per day, while also traveling the region, performing in dance bands and playing on a regular basis for Ricks College Devotionals.
While in college, Julia met a handsome young man named Dale Baxter. The happy couple wedded on June 2, 1965. They were blessed with four children and made their home in Glenns Ferry, ID and eventually relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Over the course of 50 years, her influence profoundly impacted the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of music students. It was truly a long career in changing lives. While in Glenns Ferry Julia began a second career path of music composition. Her complex and rich personality easily comes forth through her sweet melodic creations.
Through her music, Julia was a storyteller – excelling in painting resonant pictures in the listeners’ minds. And, even in death, she yet lives through enduring song, and her music will continue to touch the lives of many.
She is survived by her husband, Dale, her children Dereld Clinton of American Fork, UT; Russell Layne of Kaysville, UT; Tonya of Salt Lake City, UT; and Kendra Ellen of Richland, WA.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Parliament Park Ward, 1510 W Parliament Ave, West Valley City, UT. Friends and family may call Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the church and one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park.
