Judith Bailey Mcaffee

August 12, 1936 — April 27, 2019

Judith Bailey McAffee of West Jordan, Utah, passed away from this life in the early morning hours of April 27, 2019, She was born to Ralph DeWitt Bailey and Alice Morrey Bailey on August 12, 1936 in Richfield, Utah.
Judith had a “free range” childhood growing up on Iowa street in Salt Lake City. She
attended city schools and graduated from East High. She started attending the U of U after a one year break while working in San Francisco.
Judith married Terence Earl McAffee on June 22, 1956 in the Salt Lake City temple. They moved to Southern California and were later divorced. From this union were born: Michael (Stephanie) McAffee of Corte Madera, California; Douglas (Lisa) McAffee of Mission Viejo, California; Janet (Guy) Zimmerman of South Jordan, Utah; Megan (Dave) Anderson of Herriman, Utah. She was further blessed with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She liked, as well as loved, all of her descendants.
Mom worked throughout her life and instilled that work ethic in her children. Her very first job was at 16 years old as a typist at the U of U. Her career arc included a technical writer for PacBell, the “Thursday Editor” of the U of U Daily Chronicle 1955 – 1956, a columnist for Peninsula News, in San Pedro, CA. And her last job was as a computer programer at Aerospace Corp in El Segundo, CA. She also served in many charitable organizations. She served in various calling through church, on the PTA board, Girl Scout leader, held a membership in a philanthropic sorority, held offices in quilt chapters, and edited newsletters for many of these volunteer positions.
As a single mom who worked full-time, mom always worked additional side jobs to provide so much for us. While raising us, she also attended college to further enrich her own mind and skillset.
Mom liked to collect things: cookbooks, office supplies, containers for organizing, and games.
She enjoyed quilt making, various handcrafts and art projects. She often donated her time and talents to humanitarian efforts. She was an avid reader and much enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Mom was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived her Christian faith every day of her life. Hers was a life painted by gratitude, unconditional love, countless selfless acts and a high tolerance for differences. Throughout our childhoods she would take in lost souls and give them a home for a week, a month, or longer. Every single day she would see something to find awe in. And she would express her gratitude and, often, find humor in even the most dire of circumstances.
She was a great human, a loyal friend, and our Mom. We already miss her so much.
