Juanita Butterfield

August 20, 1928 — April 16, 2015

Juanita Pierce Butterfield, age 86, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by her loving family. She suffered for the past number of years from heart and lung diseases, but she always pressed forward to live her life the best she could.
Juanita was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Elmo James and Edna Iona Frisby Pierce. She is survived by children R. James (Barbara) Butterfield, Sherrie (David) Shoell, and Christine Martin; nine grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren (with one on the way); and sisters Vera Blockovich and Marjean Bleazard.
Juanita graduated from the old Bingham High School in Copperton, Utah. She enjoyed her years in school and was a member of the Minerette Club. Later in life, she was able to attend and graduate from LDS Business College.
Juanita met Wallace Rulon Butterfield, her husband of 63 years, on a blind date. They enjoyed a wonderful courtship and were married on November 13, 1946. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, along with their three children, on February 12, 1960. This began a lifetime of dedicated service in the LDS Church for the two of them. She taught Sunday School and Primary, and was Sunday School secretary for a number of years, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her last calling was a Relief Society Visiting Teaching District Supervisor. One of her most loved assignments was serving in the Jordan River Temple with her husband, which they did for many years. She loved being in the temple! She was an avid reader, studied the scriptures, and had an undeviating testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Through most of her career, Juanita was an excellent secretary for various companies. Her last opportunity was employment at the Utah State Office of Education, and she enjoyed that for a number of years. Her favorite hobby was crocheting, and she lovingly made afghans for all of her children and grandchildren.
Gma loved her family and was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would do anything for them, and she did! She was such a loving mother and grandmother. Words cannot express the family’s love for her.
Gma also loved her extended family, many nieces and nephews, and she had a special love for the Shoell children, grandchildren, and a great grandson, and always looked forward to being with them at family gatherings.
Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, parents; a granddaughter, Amy Lynn Martin, and a great granddaughter, Ainslee Sarah Butterfield.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Juanita’s physicians who were so exceptional in caring for her: Drs. Jennifer Norris, Kenneth Kris Nielson, J. Kent Thorne, Gilbert R. Schorlemmer, Justin D. Gull, and Peter R. Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Herriman Rose 1st Ward, 13122 Herriman Rose Blvd., in Herriman, Utah. The family will greet friends at the Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah on Friday, April 24, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
