Juan Gilbert Ortega, 91, passed away peacefully, Thursday, November 14, 2019, at home.
He leaves his wife, Esther (Fresquez) Ortega, son, Dirk M. Ortega and his wife Tamara, Huntsville UT, son Gary Bruce Ortega and his wife Michelle, Newcastle WY, daughter Tamara Liza Gonzales and husband Ray, West Jordan UT, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, step-sisters Gloria, Francis, and Lorraine, and half sister Dora.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Dominguez and Polly Vasquez.
Born in Taos, New Mexico the son of Melquies and Dora (Santistevan) Ortega. He was previously a 35 year resident of Kearns, Utah and 20 year resident of Sun City, Arizona.
He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, and served in Japan from 1946 to 1947.
After returning from the service, he married the love of his life Esther and they spent 72 wonderful years together, struggling through the tough early years in New Mexico and California before settling in Utah.
Gilbert, as he was more commonly known, worked most of his adult life at Kennecott Copper Corporation in Bingham, Utah as an explosives specialist and large haulage truck driver.
He and Esther were long time members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kearns, Utah and Willowbrook Methodist church in Sun City, Arizona.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
