Joyce Smart

January 27, 1934 — January 5, 2021

Joyce Venae Smart returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Joyce was born to Elvis and Flora Langenbacker on January 27, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Throughout her life, Joyce was always put together. She was a fashionista from the start and eventually worked as an elevator operator at Auerbach’s department store and then as a model in Salt Lake City.
On May 1, 1955, Joyce married the love of her life, Keith Larson Smart. Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She had strong faith in Jesus Christ and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a highlight of her service to others to be able to work in the Jordan Temple with Keith for many years.
Together Joyce and Keith raised three children- Terry (Debbie) Smart, Debby (Rand) Beckstead, and Stacy (Jim) Bolton. Joyce adored babies. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were her world, second only to her sweetheart. Joyce enjoyed golfing, swimming, and bowling. She loved the outdoors and she and Keith camped with their trailer throughout the West. She enjoyed annual Smart family reunions in Idaho, fishing and boating “at the lake”. Joyce was genuine, kind, gentle, and loving. She kept an immaculate yard, had a great sense of humor, with an incredible imagination and could weave a story into magic as she shared it with you. She made each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren feel that they were her favorite and cherished the time she was able to spend with them.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Darlene Mastrim, David Langenbacker, and Billie Lagenbacker, and her wonderful daughter; Stacy.
She is survived by her son; Terry (Debbie), daughter; Debby (Rand), 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, many friends, and her dog; Goldie.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 PM at the Crescent 29th Ward located at 1050 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Interment will follow at Murray City Cemetery.
