Joyce Marcroft

Laura Joyce Lindley, Born January 16, 1933 to Andrew D. Lindley and Laura Lindley (Fearnley), passed away peacefully in her home on May 26, 2021. She is survived by her children Minette, Marc (Brook), Patrick (Allison), grandchildren Meghan, Sydnee Whitson (Brian), Jordan, Kaitlyn, Brayden, Nicole, and great grandchild, Zachary Whitson. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill Marcroft.
Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Joyce lived a long and rich life enhanced by the travel, global friendships, interests and activities she shared with her husband. Joyce and Bill met while still at South High and were together in all things until his death last year. After they married, Joyce joined Bill at Wheelus AF base in Tripoli, Libya where he was stationed. They had their first child there and made a host of life-long friends from North Africa and Europe whom they stayed in touch with their entire lives through correspondence and visits. And during Bill’s long radio and television career as “Voice of the Utes,” Joyce traveled with him to countless football and basketball away games and tournaments.
Joyce also devoted time to charity work and scholarship drives. A source of great enjoyment and satisfaction came from her work with the South High Alumni Association. She also helped set up two University of Utah scholarships, one in the name of a beloved South High English teacher, and the other to honor the mother of her close childhood friend, Neil Papiano. She was involved in the selection of recipients and loved getting letters from them about their academic experiences.
Graveside service will be in Memorial Holladay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends may wish to donate in her name to the charities and funds that she loved working for:
